Ugly Bird
A bird and his creation meet for the first time.
This was my first real attempt at combining different animation techniques into one piece. It begins with cut-paper animation, moves into stop-motion, and ends in computer animation.
Each technique carries a different feeling. Cut-paper is flat and stiff, which worked well for the factory scenes. Stop-motion has a strong sense of space and depth, so I used it for the interior house scenes. Computer animation feels sharp and artificial, almost plastic, which fit the chaos of the ending.
There are endless ways to animate a story. With this film, I wanted to explore how changing the medium can change the emotion. Ugly Bird is an early step toward understanding how to use different tools intentionally, not just visually, but emotionally.
